Los Andes and Bacco in Providence in Yelp top 100
2 min readTwo Providence restaurants made Yelp’s Top 100 Places to Eat in 2021: Los Andes at No. 23 and Bacco Vino & Contorni at No. 97.
Last fall, Yelp put out the call to their Yelpers to tell them about their favorite restaurants. After thousands of suggestions were submitted, last week Yelp, which publishes crowd-sourced reviews, released their list.
Los Andes, owned by the Curi family, has made the list three times before. Named after the mountain range in South America, the restaurant specializes in the cuisines of Bolivia and Peru. It opened in 2009 at 903 Chalkstone Ave., and the food has been routinely praised ever since, especially their signature ceviche.

Bacco just celebrated its first anniversary and has operated the entire year in a pandemic economy. It’s a first for owner Armando Bisceglia, who was born in Naples, Italy. The restaurant’s Southern Italian cuisine features many Bisceglia family recipes. A large outdoor patio has been added since opening at 262 Atwells Ave., on Federal Hill.
This is the eighth year for the Top 100 list but the first one that they compiled after inviting restaurant recommendations.
To create the list, Yelp asked for Yelpers to submit restaurants that they can’t wait to return to in 2021.
For methodology, Yelp’s data science team analyzed the community submissions. To create the list, they used ratings, number of reviews, and volume of submissions, with geographic representation based on equal share of submissions of top-rated restaurants nationally.
Yelp further curated the list with the expertise of their community managers around the country.
Yelp said, “The resulting list is collaborative and passion driven – an accurate reflection of Yelp Community itself.”

Only five other New England restaurants made the list. There were three in Connecticut: Tacos El Azteca in Norwalk (33), Grassroots Ice Cream in Granby (60) and September in Bangkok in New Haven (61). There was Henry VII Carvery (71) in Kittery, Maine, and Bennett’s Sandwich Shop (95) in Portsmouth, New Hampshire.
Last year was the first time since 2016 Providence had a restaurant on the list. That was Hometown Cafe & Poké Bar.
