Michigan’s Best Local Eats: Roma’s Family Restaurant is known for pizza, pasta and perch on Friday

2 min read

BAY CITY, MI — Roma’s Family Restaurant in Bay City is best known for its pizza, pasta and perch on Friday.

The family-owned restaurant, located at 1209 Broadway St., has been in business since 1962. Joseph Gulino has owned the business for about 40 years.

“It’s definitely a family business, and we have mostly family working there, but we have employees that have been working there thirty-some years. My aunt works there and my daughter and my granddaughters, myself, my wife, so it’s definitely a family business.”

Gulino said the restaurant is best known for its pizza and pasta.

“We’re really popular for our party pizzas,” he said. “We sell a lot of pastas, we sell a lot of lasagna and carbonara, and perch on Friday.”

Steak sandwiches are popular, too. Gulino’s favorite menu item is the “super sub,” a grilled pizza crust topped with ham, mozzarella cheese, American cheese, pepperoni, lettuce, tomato, onions and your choice of dressing. Ranch is the most popular pick, but Gulino prefers Italian.

Roma’s Family Restaurant is open from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and closed Sunday and Monday. Visit romasbaycity.com to learn more.
