The best restaurants to book your Christmas dinner in outdoor igloos and heated domes across the UK

Jaime E. Love

You might not have planned to eat your Christmas lunch or dinner in a greenhouse or tent, but for those of us who usually celebrate on December 25 with a slap-up meal out, that might well be a viable option.

This year, heated outdoor areas, private igloos, covered terraces and tents are de rigueur for any venue that has the space to erect them, and will be popular choices for those hoping to enjoy a Covid-secure drink or dinner on Christmas Day.

From ‘dining domes’ in Bath which offer views of the city to a five-star hotel in Newbury that has created its own après-ski style tent in the grounds (complete with a winter barbecue), there’s an awning to please everyone.

It’s been one hell of a year for the hospitality industry and restaurant owners and chefs are now working double-time to ensure guests are able to enjoy their menus over the festive period. There has never been a better time to hang up the apron (and ditch the washing up) and support your local favourite.

At the time of writing, all of the restaurants below are in tier 1 or tier 2 restriction areas and are cranking up the patio heaters to greet their guests.
