Three of the best restaurants in Marlborough to check out

2 min read

Feeling a bit peckish at the top of the South? Here are three restaurants to satisfy your cravings.

Arbour Restaurant

Diners travel miles to eat at this uber-local restaurant in Renwick. It’s easy to see why: owners Liz Buttimore and Bradley Hornby fly the flag for foraging, seasonal ingredients and delicious combinations, such as hāpuka with celery and green apple dashi. Just make sure to save room for dessert, especially if it’s citrus sorbet with Earl Grey and candied fennel.

Hans Herzog

Dust off your flash dress for this fancy-pants eatery tucked between 11.5ha of grapevines. This is private dining with white table-cloths and a classic European menu that goes heavy on local and seasonal produce. The wine, naturally, comes from the Hans Herzog winery next door where they’ll give you a tour of the cellar if you ask nicely.

Jack’s Raw Bar

Fancy fresh local seafood with a Japanese twist? Cloudy Bay Vineyard is where you need to go. The bar takes its name from the iconic white Pelorus Jack dolphin that was famous for guiding boats into the Marlborough Sounds. It’s a homage to all things tasty, from freshly-shucked oysters and Cloudy Bay clams to local cheese, wine and ice-cream.
