Customer smashes plate in chip shop owner’s face in ‘cold’ food row

Jaime E. Love 1 day ago

A woman smashed a plate in the face of a chip shop owner and left her with a bloody nose following a row over an order. Wendy Mountford struck Shirley Hollies with the crockery, causing it to break, after throwing chips and mushy peas at her back.

She then proceeded to pull her hair during the incident at her home in Well Street, Biddulph.

Mountford denied using the plate as a weapon and claimed she had only been acting in self-defence after Mrs Hollies had attacked her. But the 55-year-old was convicted of assault occasioning actual bodily harm following a trial at North Staffordshire Justice Centre.

During her defence evidence, Mountford admitted that she sometimes took too much prescription medication and hallucinated.

Food stall Crave Street Food given permission to trade from horsebox in Truro City Centre

Jaime E. Love 2 days ago

A food stall owner has been given permission to use a horsebox for his business despite concerns about the size of the outlet. Paul Coster, who runs Crave Street Food, had applied to alter his street trading licence in Truro City Centre.

Mr Coster, who serves hot dogs and snacks in Pydar Street, currently operates from a gazebo in the street but had asked Cornwall Council to alter this so he could use a trailer instead. However, his application had attracted objections from Truro City Council and Truro BID which were concerned about the size of the trailer and whether it was suitable for the pitch in Pydar Street.

Mr Coster told a meeting of Cornwall Council’s street trading sub-committee that the horsebox he wanted to use was slightly longer than the gazebo but was narrower so would actually provide more space for pedestrians.

California bill aims to help street food vendors by changing retail code, streamlining permit process

Jaime E. Love 3 days ago
LOS ANGELES — Southern California is known for its many street food vendors. A new bill moving through the state Legislature would make it easier for them to make a living.

SB 972 would change the food retail code so they’re able to get the proper health permits.

Merlin Alvarado works 12-hour days as a food street vendor. It’s how she has made a living for 16 years.

Her family in Southern California and her mother in Central America depend on her small business.

If five years ago, someone told her street vending would be legalized in Los Angeles, Alvarado said she would have laughed.

She has been a crucial member of a coalition that helped make that a reality in L.A. and California. Now, she and colleagues are sounding the alarm on the challenges they face to obtain permits from local health departments.

Everything you need to know about Taste of Cincinnati 2022: Food, street closings, more

Jaime E. Love 4 days ago

We hope you’re hungry because it’s almost time!

After a few long years away, the Taste of Cincinnati festival has finally returned to downtown Cincinnati and to its rightful spot on Memorial Day weekend, offering a chance for hundreds of thousands of visitors to experience the vibrant culinary scene alive in the Queen City.

Founded in 1979, Taste of Cincinnati is claimed to be the nation’s longest-running culinary arts festival. It began as a one-day festival in Piatt Park, then known as Garfield Park. By 1981, it had expanded to two days, and to three days by 1988, moving to Central Parkway.

By 2007, Taste of Cincinnati moved to Fifth Street, where it will be held again this year.

In the past, more than 550,000 people have attended Taste of Cincinnati, and organizers say it’s one of the nation’s largest street festivals.

When is Taste of Cincinnati?
