Hush house co-founder opens Aftermath Bar & Kitchen in uptown Phoenix

Aftermath Bar & Kitchen is set to make its uptown Phoenix debut on Friday, Nov. 19.

The stylish bar and restaurant come from Charles Barber Jr., co-founder of Hush Public House, one of Scottsdale’s trendiest new restaurants of 2019.

After leaving Hush Public House earlier this year, he teamed up with longtime friend Dave Bowman, former executive chef of Zinc Bistro to open the restaurant near the northwest corner of 16th Street and Bethany Home Road.

Barber spent 14 years behind the bar at Zinc Bistro, so guests can expect a beverage program featuring classic and craft cocktails, which Barber promises will “push the envelope,” The Arizona Republic previously reported.

There will also be an extensive wine list and an oyster bar called “The Drift Bar,” according to the restaurant’s reservation page.

Her restaurant is prized for its gumbo, cornbread, shrimp and grits, and fried chicken. She told The Dallas Morning News in June 2021 that Southern food is complex and personal
